Family Day Shenanigans

This year our Family Day was a little different.  We have been down and sick with the flu, so our outdoor activity time was minimal.  That doesn’t mean that we didn’t get outside at least once this weekend.  We decided to stay close to home just in case we started to not feel 100% anymore.

Sunday…

Sunday we decided to take a little drive to Sager Conservation Area.  This is part of the Lower Trent Conservation Area Authority and it includes a small hike with a tower at the top of the hill. We have been here on many occasions watching the sunset, watching a full moon rise, and just to get outside for some fresh air.

Today was a little different in that we have not yet visited this trail in the winter.  The parking area is closed during the winter, so you have to park on the side of the road and walk into the trail system. It is a very short walk, and very pretty in the winter.  The trail is about 1 km in length, and you can choose to follow that trail, or just take the stairs to the tower.

Since we were all recovering, we decided to just take the stairs to the tower.  The view from this tower is amazing! You can look in all directions, North, South, East and West, and there is even information plaques describing what you can see.  On a clear day like today, you can see far into the Trent River drainage area.

Monday…

On Monday, Dan had to work, so it was just my son and I looking for adventures close to home.  Since it was going to rain in the afternoon, we got in the car and went for a drive down to Sandbanks Provincial Park. Our goal was to walk around at the Lakeshore Lodge area.  From here you can see the dunes and far out into Lake Ontario.

We didn’t venture too far around this area as it was a cooler day and my son was still not feeling the best. I didn’t want to push him too far.  On windy days in the summer, this area will be full of high waves and you can watch them crashing into the cliffs.

Even though these are not our normal shenanigans, it’s still nice to be able to spend the time with family. I hope you all enjoyed your family day!
