As part of the Reverly Outdoor Equipment Co #getoutside2019 challenge, we decided to get up extra early one morning during March break to watch the sun rise and, as the challenge says, “just don’t go outside, revel in it”.
Saluting the Sun
I didn’t want this to be just an ordinary experience, so I opted to bring my morning tea and a towel to the beach so I could do a little sun salutation yoga, then sit and drink my tea to greet the rising sun. I am not the best yogi – and after viewing the video I shot, it’s obvious that I am not as flexible as I used to be! – but that didn’t stop me from trying.
A Little Perspective
Once the sun was up, Dan did what he loves to do (and is so good at) – headed down the beach with his camera searching for things to photograph in the morning light. While he was wandering the beach, I decided to try something fun with Hayden, so I had him stand in different positions as if he was holding the sun in his hands and surrounding it with his arms.

As we watched the sun creep higher in the sky and enjoyed the morning light, I took time to reflect on how important it is to us to go outside and do the things we love together as a family. For me, that’s the great thing about these challenges.
