When the parks opened their day use areas, we knew it was going to be busy so we waited until late afternoon on the Monday of the long weekend before heading down the Sandbanks Provincial Park to walk the trails at the Lakeshore Lodge area.
It was a calm afternoon with the possibility of a rain shower, which explains why the parking area was not as busy as we were expecting. We headed directly for the shoreline and the water was so clear and calm. There have been many trips to this area where the waves are crashing over the tops of the cliffs, but today there was barely a ripple in the water. It was easy to see the smooth flat rocks that sit under the water below.
Our walk took us down the trail where the trees were starting to bloom and the forest floor was turning green. I love the smells in the forest this time of year with the fresh foliage forming. There were also a couple of downed trees that produced some nice images.
Once we reached the water’s edge, we walked along the shore just taking it all in. It’s felt like a really long time since we have visited a provincial park, so today we barely talked to each other and just really enjoyed the sounds of nature that surrounded us.
I am hopeful that we will be experiencing more outdoor adventures to the parks, but for now we will still be vigilant in our efforts to be safe. We all want to enjoy what nature has for us, even when it gets old and withered like this tree in the parking area.
Thank you all for reading and I hope that you also were able to get outside on the long weekend, even if it was just for a small walk.
