A few weeks ago we managed to arrange a trip in Algonquin to take in the fall colours and do some hiking. Unfortunately, we missed the peak colours for the maples, but we were lucky to catch the remaining golden leaves before they fell as well.

I had planned to do a solo trip at the end of September, but when I mentioned doing a trip to my friend Maya (who I completed the Basic Canoe instructor course with a few weeks prior) that plan changed and we decided to go to Kingscote Lake together. We planned to do some fishing and exploring, but we didn’t expect to also be catching the start of the fall colour change in Algonquin Park.

As our time for summer trips was coming to an end, I continued my search for backcountry canoe trips that we could complete before I had to head back to work. I once again got lucky and managed to snag a two night booking at Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park. It was in the middle of the week, but with sites hard to come by this summer Dan booked the time off from work and off we went.

For the past few years, Christina and I have gone on an adventure over the Labour Day long weekend to celebrate my birthday. This year’s celebration was a little different though since I was scheduled to start work before the weekend, thus making our plans not work out for a big trip.
