For the past few years, I have really enjoyed going to the Outdoor Adventure Show in Toronto, so after hearing about the Quiet Adventure Symposium I was intrigued and wanted to go check it out. As luck would have it, an opportunity to go this year fell into my lap and I couldn’t pass it up.

Head North in February on the Family Day long weekend and you will find like minded outdoor winter enthusiasts attending the Ontario Parks Winter in the Wild Festival at Mew Lake. This event is not limited to experienced winter enthusiasts, but also brings out new and upcoming outdoor adventure seekers. This year we attended as a family to take in this festival and have some outdoor fun on the long weekend.

For the past few years we have heard about how several Ontario Parks campgrounds host Halloween festivities, but have not had the chance to go. Camping near the end of October has its challenges due to the cold and wet weather, and although we’ve often camped as far north as Arrowhead Provincial Park for Thanksgiving, we are not really properly prepared for the colder camping season. However, this year we really felt like we had the knowledge and skills (and blankets) to endure any weather Mother Nature would throw at us.
