I can’t officially say that the ice is out in ALL of Ontario, but down in our little section of it we are officially ice free. Of course that means it is time to get our canoe out for her first paddle of the year. She had been waiting patiently in our garage for the water to be soft for a very long time.

It’s springtime, and that means that my parents are making their way back to Newfoundland after spending the last few months in Myrtle Beach. Since we live so far apart and don’t see each other much they stop at our place to visit on their way south and then again on their way home – not exactly a direct route, but we’re glad they do. This year, their visit coincided with the Easter weekend and since we have not spent an Easter together in 16 years, we knew that we wanted to make the day special.

It was a very cold winter day and we were staying warm in the house while trying to figure out something to do outside. We weren’t sure what to do, so as we sometimes do, we just hopped into the car and headed out on the highway. The initial plan was to go to Presqu’ile Provincial Park, but when we took the off ramp we had a last minute choice: go left to Presqu’ile or right to Ferris. Since we had been to Presqu’ile a few times this winter already, we turned right and headed North to Ferris.
