We woke up Sunday morning to a lovely winter scene thanks to the little bit of fresh snow that had fallen overnight. The snow was a fantastic sight because the plan was to go hike some of the trails Algonquin has to offer in the winter. Unfortunately, a couple of our favourites were closed due to bad conditions, but it worked out because that forced us to head to an awesome trail we had never hiked before! Fall is such a lovely time around here to chase colors and camp in cooler and more comfortable conditions, at least in my opinion. We are definitely fonder of the cooler fall temperatures around Ontario than those hot and humid summer days. Even though those are lovely, but in short spurts. We knew that there was no way we would venture north to Algonquin on Thanksgiving weekend as the crowds tend to be…. a little crazy, so we waited for the weekend after.
What I Packed in my 60L Barrel for My Solo Trip
I had just completed a multi-day solo canoe trip in Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park, and I decided to try something a little different. Actually there were a few things different on this trip for me. Firstly I was using a solo Swift Keewaydin 15 ft canoe, then I decided I would try to get all my gear into our 60L barrel.

School’s Out for Summer
This trip was a little different for us. This trip the boys got a head start on celebrating the last day of school along with the first day of summer. Friday was a PA day here, which means Hayden is home from school, but I am still required to be at work. That gave way for plans on having my boys get a night out on their own, and I would join them after work on Friday.
