Last fall I came across a company that was starting up in our area called I-Float. The company features pods that are filled with water and chemicals that you go inside and just float. Why you ask? Well there are numerous benefits to this sensory deprivation floating pod.

There is something about sliding that makes you feel like a child again, so while on our holidays in Newfoundland, we made plans to go sliding with a friend and her daughter. Unfortunately she got sick the morning of our plans, so we headed out on our own and hit up one of the local hills that was a favourite when I was a kid.

As part of Ontario Parks’ Healthy Parks Healthy People philosophy they created the First Day Hike challenge. The idea is to start the new year out right by going for a hike on January 1st (and sharing it on social media in hopes to win some prizes). This year we were not in Ontario for the holidays, so hiking in an Ontario Park was not an option, but we decided to complete the challenge anyway by hiking a section of the East Coast Trail in Newfoundland – not too shabby for a backup location.
