When ticket sales started for the Ontario Backcountry Canoe Symposium in April 2019, it got me thinking back to August when we headed out to Kawartha Highlands for a weekend adventure. The park is located just over an hour drive from us and offers smaller lakes with equally small portages (for the most part), so it makes for an easy last minute weekend getaway.
Hopewell Rocks Adventure
This summer, as we headed back from our Newfoundland vacation, we decided to stop and see the Hopewell Rocks in New Brunswick. Dan and I had been there many years before and we both felt Hayden would love to see this natural phenomenon. If you are unfamiliar with this location, it is on the Bay of Fundy where the tides are so extreme that visitors are able walk on the ocean floor during low tide, while at high tide there is 15m of water.
Wait… What?? I’m going to be 40? Part 2
The first evening of our trip had passed, bringing the first morning of my 40s, but that was OK because Christina and I had been having a great time on our trip so far and there was more fun to be had. There was some rain overnight and it was still sprinkling a little in the morning as we crawled out of our tents, but that didn’t bother us. We had no set plans for the day, but we knew there would be more fishing! If you missed it, click here to read about part 1.
Wait… What?? I’m going to be 40? Part 1
As you may have guessed from the title, this blog is dedicated to my 40th birthday. For the past couple of years, we have gone camping together on my birthday since it usually falls on Labour Day weekend. However, for my 39th I left the family behind and I went on a trip with Cruising Canoes to the French River with 10 people I didn’t know, and this year I went canoe tripping with Christina. We have been wanting to do a summer canoe trip together and Labour Day weekend was our first chance. It just happen to fall on my big birthday.
