I recently decided to try something a little different than our normal outdoorsy type adventures when I spotted an event on Facebook being held at a local yoga studio where you do yoga AND play with kittens. It was a fundraising event for a local animal shelter advocate called Fixed Fur Life – where we actually got our kittens from many years ago, so I was glad to help them out. They help rescue and foster animals, and provide funding to spay and neuter them to help prevent the influx of animals to local shelters.

It was a very cold winter day and we were staying warm in the house while trying to figure out something to do outside. We weren’t sure what to do, so as we sometimes do, we just hopped into the car and headed out on the highway. The initial plan was to go to Presqu’ile Provincial Park, but when we took the off ramp we had a last minute choice: go left to Presqu’ile or right to Ferris. Since we had been to Presqu’ile a few times this winter already, we turned right and headed North to Ferris.

There are many items that I love to bring on a trip. When we car camp, we load our vehicle as much as we can. We know there will be no weight limits, or even space limits (well the size of the vehicle I suppose), so lots of gear it is. However, when you are backcountry camping, there are many items that will have to be left home. Or if you have the money, you can purchase much lighter gear (that’s a whole other story though). Today I will go through three of my luxury pieces of gear that I bring on backcountry trips.
