As you may have guessed from the title, this blog is dedicated to my 40th birthday. For the past couple of years, we have gone camping together on my birthday since it usually falls on Labour Day weekend. However, for my 39th I left the family behind and I went on a trip with Cruising Canoes to the French River with 10 people I didn’t know, and this year I went canoe tripping with Christina. We have been wanting to do a summer canoe trip together and Labour Day weekend was our first chance. It just happen to fall on my big birthday.
Adventure Down the West Coast of Newfoundland
As we prepared to say farewell to Newfoundland, we planned to visit a few more sites along the west coast. Our plan for these couple of days was to see more of Gros Morne National Park, visit a local provincial park further up the west coast, then end with a visit with family while we wait for our ferry.

Algonquin Fall Color Chase?
Fall is such a lovely time around here to chase colors and camp in cooler and more comfortable conditions, at least in my opinion. We are definitely fonder of the cooler fall temperatures around Ontario than those hot and humid summer days. Even though those are lovely, but in short spurts. We knew that there was no way we would venture north to Algonquin on Thanksgiving weekend as the crowds tend to be…. a little crazy, so we waited for the weekend after.
Visiting L’Anse Aux Meadows
While on our East Coast adventure this summer we decided to visit L’anse Aux Meadows in northern Newfoundland. This location is where vikings were first known to have set foot on the island and discovered this new land. Having just been to Iceland, this was a very neat connection for us as we saw lots of Norse history there which connects to Newfoundland, our home province.
