This weekend in preparation for some winter backcountry camping, I needed to build a pulk. This is a sled that you tow behind yourself with all your gear over the snow. I have not made one before, and the only time I towed a sled, I used just my son’s regular sled. I had just a short 1 km walk, so I wasn’t too worried about things falling off and since this was for one of my school run trips at a local conservation area, I had 20 students who could pick up after me LOL. It worked just fine, but I wanted to make one for longer trips. Hence this weekends DIY project.
Ontario Winter Camping Symposium 2017
This year a group of outdoor enthusiasts planned and organized the first ever Ontario Winter Camping Symposium. There would be speakers that have all sorts of different winter camping experiences, and they would share a little of their knowledge with the lucky 300 people who were able to get tickets.

Ever Sleep in a Quinzee?
A few years ago I started teaching an outdoor education course that was running at my school. Part of this program included a winter camp, where if conditions were favorable, the students would build and sleep in quinzees for the nights.
