Last year visited the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge in New York state where they do their best to care for wild animals in need. We decided to go check out the sanctuary while we were vacationing in Lake Placid since we heard they had wolves as well as many other animals.

I recently decided to try something a little different than our normal outdoorsy type adventures when I spotted an event on Facebook being held at a local yoga studio where you do yoga AND play with kittens. It was a fundraising event for a local animal shelter advocate called Fixed Fur Life – where we actually got our kittens from many years ago, so I was glad to help them out. They help rescue and foster animals, and provide funding to spay and neuter them to help prevent the influx of animals to local shelters.

Picture 400 people in an auditorium all listening to presentations about a common topic: Winter Camping! Yes, that happened again this year with the help of organizer David Bain (and more) at the Theatre of the Arts in Waterloo. This is the second year for the Ontario Winter Camping Symposium and I made sure to secure a ticket. There was a great line up consisting of 5 presentations, sponsors with lots of outdoor goodies ready to purchase, and lots of friends to chat with.
What I Packed in my 60L Barrel for My Solo Trip
I had just completed a multi-day solo canoe trip in Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park, and I decided to try something a little different. Actually there were a few things different on this trip for me. Firstly I was using a solo Swift Keewaydin 15 ft canoe, then I decided I would try to get all my gear into our 60L barrel.
