Last year I celebrated my birthday with Camper Christina on Black Lake in the Haliburton Highlands Water Trails and we had so much fun that we decided to do it again this year. We knew we wanted to head to Temagami, but exactly where was hard to decide. Since Christina is more familiar with the park, she finally settled on heading to Obabika Lake where she had arranged a special surprise for my birthday.

Last July my son and I went on our first overnight canoe trip to a local park without my hubby. I wanted to test out his skills in our canoe and how he’d handle carrying gear on a portage. He was not a very strong paddler so I knew we had to keep the paddling distance short, but I was pleased to see how well he handled it and could tell that he’d be able to take on a more challenging trip this year.

While on our East Coast adventure this summer we decided to visit L’anse Aux Meadows in northern Newfoundland. This location is where vikings were first known to have set foot on the island and discovered this new land. Having just been to Iceland, this was a very neat connection for us as we saw lots of Norse history there which connects to Newfoundland, our home province.
School’s Out for Summer
This trip was a little different for us. This trip the boys got a head start on celebrating the last day of school along with the first day of summer. Friday was a PA day here, which means Hayden is home from school, but I am still required to be at work. That gave way for plans on having my boys get a night out on their own, and I would join them after work on Friday.
