It is once again that wonderful time of year when the days are getting longer, the snow is melting, the temperatures are rising, and the maple sap starts flowing. For the last 10 years we have enjoyed attending the Maple in the County festival to visit the local sugar shacks, farms, and local businesses, where we get our fill of maple syrup and pancakes. We also love the maple candy, maple cotton candy, and other maple flavoured treats we find, but the main take home prize is always a nice big bottle of pure maple syrup. I mean, growing up in Newfoundland, we thought maple syrup was made by Aunt Jemima, but now we are maple syrup snobs – although Dan still has a soft spot for the other stuff and we keep an emergency bottle on hand, just in case.

Every year over the Family Day long weekend, Algonquin Provincial Park hosts The Winter In The Wild Festival to celebrate winter in the park. It’s a great weekend to head to the park to learn about all the things that they have to offer, including outdoor activities like skating and snowshoeing, guided tours, and various presentations and demonstrations on things like winter camping. This year was my first time attending the festival, which was extra special because I was invited by Camper Christina to help her demo her hot tents and talk about winter camping, which I was really excited to do. This year’s Outdoor Adventure Show took place in Toronto from February 22-24th and I am so grateful that I was able to attend again as an official blogger. This show highlights all things outdoors and is an integral component of the outdoor community that I love, so I am excited to share my experience with everyone who couldn’t attend. The show is also a great place to see old friends, make new ones, and shop around for gear (that I really don’t need, but want to buy anyway!). I actually didn’t buy anything this year, but I did look REALLY hard at some items.
Over the next couple of posts, I will recap a few of the presentations that I was able to attend and take you around the venue showing off different booths, displays, demonstrations etc. I hope you enjoy!

We woke up Sunday morning to a lovely winter scene thanks to the little bit of fresh snow that had fallen overnight. The snow was a fantastic sight because the plan was to go hike some of the trails Algonquin has to offer in the winter. Unfortunately, a couple of our favourites were closed due to bad conditions, but it worked out because that forced us to head to an awesome trail we had never hiked before! If you missed part 1, you can click here to read about our trip so far.
