Last year my friend Peter and I completed a section of The Meanest Link from Opeongo to Oxtongue. Almost a year later were back to complete the Brent to Opeongo section which covers 80km with 16km of that being portages – a total of 26! Our plan was to complete the trip in two days and one night.

One very beautiful Saturday morning we headed to Frankford to paddle on the Trent River. The river is part of the Trent River Watershed and contains a series of locks that go from Trenton all the way to Port Severn and Georgian Bay. We were not paddling that big of a distance, however we have really been wanting to get out and explore this river system.

With the fall colors at their peak, we wanted to get out for a final paddle, so we headed to Frontenac Provincial Park and parked at the Kingsford Dam access then portaged into Devil Lake.

I have only had the chance to do one solo canoe trip this year so I was looking forward to doing another one before the hard water set in. Good campsites have been hard to come by this year, so I was really lucky to to find an opening at Kawartha Highlands.
