There are many items that I love to bring on a trip. When we car camp, we load our vehicle as much as we can. We know there will be no weight limits, or even space limits (well the size of the vehicle I suppose), so lots of gear it is. However, when you are backcountry camping, there are many items that will have to be left home. Or if you have the money, you can purchase much lighter gear (that’s a whole other story though). Today I will go through three of my luxury pieces of gear that I bring on backcountry trips.
If you have to carry your own gear on portages, you will soon realize that there are items you may wish to leave at home. That extra blanket for warmth, that extra flashlight (because you have so many), the third stove (just because you want to try out something new), well you get the idea. However, there are a few items that I like to take if I am willing to carry them.

Number 1
My Eureka! NoBugZone shelter! This has been on many trips already, and I do not hesitate to carry it on trips, especially in the dreaded bug season. This has saved my sanity, as well as my families on some trips where being out in the open without would question our back country trips.
Number 2
My Helinox camp chair. There are some back country sites that actually have picnic tables, and some that don’t. The sites in Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park all contain picnic tables, so on those trips we have opted to leave our chairs at home. However, when we went to Temagami, we took these chairs as sitting on the ground, or on stumps can get a little hard on the back.
Number 3
My hammock! I am thrilled that I received a second hammock in the spring Explore Box, as my son used to steal mine while on trips. This item pairs nicely with my NoBugZone as I can hang it inside away from the bugs and just chill or maybe nap!
