This is the final instalment of our crazy awesome West Coast Adventure. This last stop was unplanned, but a great idea. Hayden had been bothering us the whole trip to find a hotel with a pool and water slide, or a water park in general. So we surprised him by booking a night near the West Edmonton Mall and spending the day in the water park instead of going back to Calgary right away.
Once we arrived and checked in to the hotel, we walked across the street to check out the mall. We had never been there before, but have heard about how big it was. Besides the indoor water park, there was also a skating rink AND amusement park with multiple roller coasters!!! Our hotel came with two coupons for either the water park or the amusement park, and Hayden isn’t too keen on twisty roller coasters, so we just watched the rides, which we must admit looked pretty insane.
We walked around the mall for quite a while, trying to see all corners (I’m sure we missed some stores), before deciding to find a place to eat supper. Down one of the halls we found multiple restaurants to choose from and decided to go for a new place called Mikes. It had steak and beer, so my decision was made. It also had board games that people could use while waiting for their food, which we thought was a really cool idea. Hayden went and picked out the game Battleship and we enjoyed a few games against each other. Such a great idea to keep people disconnected from their devices and enjoy each others company.
Yummy Flight Battleship! YUMMY steak
After supper we walked the mall a little more before heading back to the hotel to get some rest before the water park in the morning.
The water park was really fun and quite the workout! There were so many stairs to climb to get to the big slides! We headed straight to the top and took the biggest slide first which was much faster than we were expecting. After that Hayden and Dan hit many more of the slides but I decided to chill in the wave pool. Slides are just not something I can do many of anymore as all the twists and turns don’t agree with me 🙁 Imagine that… getting motion sick on a water slide.
After hours of water fun Dan had messed up both of his shoulders – there’s a reason the signs tell you to keep your arms crossed over your chest – but going airborne several times on one of the slides – there’s also a reason why there was no lineup for that slide – was his cue to hit the hot tub while Hayden went on a few last rides. We still had a few hours of driving ahead of us to get to our hotel in Calgary where we would be getting our flight home the next morning. It was an amazing couple of weeks of adventures but we were ready for our own beds again!
Thanks for following along with our summer fun and keep coming back as we get into our final summer adventures and prepare for fall and winter adventures!
That is quite the Mall! A great ending to your wonderful adventure. <3
