First Kayak Camping Trip – Part 3

Disaster struck as I woke to prepare breakfast for us on Sunday morning. Inside the Ursack, a couple of the farm fresh eggs I had brought cracked open and oozed everywhere.

One thing with travelling with eggs, there is a possibility of breakage. The eggs had been in a hard container in a ziplock, but as we ate and moved items around we used the ziplock for other things and the eggs were just sitting on their own in the container. Lesson learned here: Make sure you double wrap the eggs, or just don’t use that bag for something else. The eggs had oozed over my new Thirty-One bag and all the other bags inside. At least everything else was wrapped and protected, but what a mess.

Sunday Morning

The morning started well with a beautiful sunny calm view from my tent. Then I went to prepare breakfast and found the egg disaster greeting me. Not much can be done but to clean up the mess as best as I could and continue with prepping the breakfast meal. Breakfast was cooked bacon warmed in the pan with scrambled eggs wrapped in tortilla shells and extra old cheddar.

As I sat by my tent looking out over our site, I was not wanting to leave. This is truly a beautiful area and I wanted to make sure I took it all in before leaving.

It was time to leave our home so we packed up our gear, the kayaks and started our 13 km paddle back to the marina. We were on the water just before 9 am with calm water and clear skies. I was really glad to be paddling home in the calmer weather as it gave me a chance to really enjoy all my surroundings of Georgian Bay.

The rock formations as we passed through many smaller islands was just unbelievable. This landscape really does draw me in and I want to go back here really soon. Now that I am fully comfortable with navigating these waters, knowing that I can paddling in some decent sized waves and wind, I feel like I will need to come back here again soon.

A HUGE thanks for Christina for taking me out into the big waters of Georgian Bay on my first ever kayak camping trip. These are memories that I will cherish for a very long time.
