Last year my friend Peter and I completed a section of The Meanest Link from Opeongo to Oxtongue. Almost a year later were back to complete the Brent to Opeongo section which covers 80km with 16km of that being portages – a total of 26! Our plan was to complete the trip in two days and one night.
Continue reading “Brent to Opeongo Meanest Link”After putting off buying a hot tent for a very long time, we finally pulled the trigger in October and purchased one – well, It’s actually an old canvas tent which we converted into a hot tent, but it’s a hot tent now! With winter fast approaching, we were excited to try it out in Algonquin at New Year’s Eve and Family Day weekend. Unfortunately due to covid we were not able to get out either of those times. But just when we thought our chance to get out winter camping was gone for this season, everything finally opened up the middle of March so we seized the opportunity and headed north.

A few weeks ago we managed to arrange a trip in Algonquin to take in the fall colours and do some hiking. Unfortunately, we missed the peak colours for the maples, but we were lucky to catch the remaining golden leaves before they fell as well.

Would you travel around Algonquin Park covering about 420 km just to get your name on a wall? I know I would. So when my friend Peter messaged me about completing a section of a trip called the “Meanest Link” I was all in. The section we would attempt to complete was a total distance of 102.2 km that went from Lake Opeongo to Oxtongue Lake connecting the two Algonquin Outfitter stores at each location.
