Snowshoeing at Presqu’ile

I am a fan of spontaneous adventures – especially when my plan for the day includes grocery shopping, cleaning, and school work while my boys went to play on the ski hill (boring!) – so when the opportunity came up to go snowshoeing instead, I was already out the door. It all came about while taking a break (i.e. checking Facebook) and I noticed that Andrew from Cruising Canoes had put out a call for people to join him for a free afternoon of snowshoeing at Presqu’ile Provincial Park.

Of course, being outside in the fresh air and getting exercise is way more fun than school work, so off I went to meet up with Andrew for a snowshoeing adventure. I met him, and four others who had responded to the call, at the mall where we introduced ourselves and jumped into his van for the drive to the park.

Although we were there for snowshoeing, we had to take a few minutes when we arrived to check out the huge “ice volcanoes” that were forming along the shores of Lake Ontario.

For the next two hours we hiked in and out of the trail system, guided by a friend of Andrew’s who knows the park like the back of his hand – a weird saying… I mean have you ever studied your own hand? But I digress. Over the years my crew and I have spent a lot of time at this park, but I have never spent so much time hiking, so it was great to have someone guide us to places that I have never seen.

By the end of the hike, my legs were burning and I wanted to go home and relax, but after this temporary escape, I had to go back to reality and get that work done!

If you don’t already follow Cruising Canoes, you should go check out the Facebook page and give it a follow. Maybe someday you can blow off work to go have a fun adventure outside with them too!
