Colin’s Lake Mountain Biking Loop

Back before everything shut down, we had purchased new mountain bikes for both myself and my son. However, we didn’t have very many places to try them out as most recreational areas were closed and we had to wait. When the word came out that certain places were opening up and we could now hit the trails we immediately bought a family pass for the Kingston Mountain Bike Club, where Dan and Hayden have been members for years.

My boys have been biking in Kingston for a couple of years, however, I have stayed clear as my old bike was just not worthy of these trails. But with my new bike I had no more excuses! So the second day the trails were open we went and completed the Home Loop. I was not a fan of this loop as it was my first time on these trails, so I was being very cautious.

Our next trip out a few days later was way better. We took a different trail called Colin’s Lake Loop. I found this trail ride much more to my liking. We first had to bike about 3 km to the trail head meandering through farmer fields, then headed into the forest to complete the loop.

I was enjoying this trail as it reminded me of the trails at McCauley Mountain called the Bunny Snake Trail and Strawberry Fields. Those trails twist back and forth and you would swear you are biking the wrong way as people ahead of you and actually biking towards you, then away from you.

We stopped half way through this trail where there was a deck in the middle of nowhere, and two red chairs for taking in the views of the lake. I could have stayed in these chairs for days. It is such a lovely place.

The second half of the trail was probably my favorite section. We once again meandered back and forth on the trail while going through some very narrow trees, then up and over rocks and roots. This bike was definitely handling this type of trail way better than my older one. I found that biking over the roots was much easier for me than it has been in the past.

We had finally exited the trail system and headed back through the fields to where the clubhouse is located. I know my boys love these trails and after this ride I was a little happier with the trails than I was on our first visit. I’m looking forward to more rides this summer and hopefully we will be able to join in on group rides that finish with a bonfire and a marshmallow roast.

Have you been out mountain biking since the weather has gotten warmer? I would love to hear about it in the comments. Thanks of reading.
