Biking the Millennium Trail – Prince Edward County

Finding new adventures in our local area is such a great thing, especially these days. It means there’s no need travel long distances and we get to support our local businesses. We’ve known about the Millennium trail for a long time, but never really looked into exploring it until now. It’s an old rail bed which has been converted to a multi-use trail and covers 46 km from Consecon to Picton in Prince Edward County.

On a nice Saturday morning we decided to tackle a section of this trail starting in Picton. Since we only had the one car, we needed to return along the same trail so we were unsure how far we would bike that morning (how far Hayden would be willing to bike!) but we planned to make it halfway to Wellington.

I was really impressed on how nice this trail was and how many people were using the different sections that we biked through. Along this trail there are many roads that it crosses, so accessing the trail along different sections is quite easy.

We eventually made it to Wellington which was at km 26 on the trail. There are kilometer markers along this trail, so it is really easy to know exactly where we were and how far we would have to go to reach a certain destination (and for Hayden to complain on the return trip about how far we had left to go).

Once in Wellington we headed over to the outdoor market as we were hopeful that there would be some goodies for us to get as a snack. Luck was on our side as Lemonade Dave was there, a drink that we just love! We also picked up some mini donuts to go along with our drink.

Having now refueled our body with sugar we started our 26km trek back to our vehicle. Hayden was definitely slower on the way back to the car, but he did a great job and we made it. Dan joked with him about us now heading to the other end of the trail and biking from there to Wellington to complete this trail. That was a hard no from him… for now.

We will eventually complete the other section of this trail at a future date. For more information on this trail, check out the following page.
