DIY Winter Camping Sled (AKA Pulk)

This weekend in preparation for some winter backcountry camping, I needed to build a pulk. This is a sled that you tow behind yourself with all your gear over the snow.  I have not made one before, and the only time I towed a sled, I used just my son’s regular sled. I had just a short 1 km walk, so I wasn’t too worried about things falling off and since this was for one of my school run trips at a local conservation area, I had 20 students who could pick up after me LOL.  It worked just fine, but I wanted to make one for longer trips. Hence this weekends DIY project.

Hiking a High Peak (Thanksgiving Weekend Trip Part 1)

The past few years we have gone camping in Arrowhead Provincial Park on the Thanksgiving weekend to catch the fall colors.  This year we knew the colors were not the best, so we decided to do something a little different.  For Thanksgiving this year, we headed to Lake Placid in New York State.  We have been here twice before, but the timing was lining up nicely with the fall color reports for the area.

Temagami – Our First Crown Land Canoe Trip

This summer I really wanted to try somewhere new, off grid, crown land canoe camping.  Dan had another week of vacation to use, and I knew I wanted to go canoe camping….somewhere…. After some research I landed upon Temagami.  If you know this park, it is quite big, and you can travel for a long time and not cover the same area.  With this being such an unknown I continued to ask for help as to where is the best place to start.
