Being a Local Tourist

We live in an area that has many places and things to see and do, so with the weather looking extremely beautiful the last weekend in May, we headed out to find some local tourist locations.  The decision was made to take the canoe out for a paddle down in  Wellington, and well, just see what would happen after that…

On the beach in Wellington, we headed to the inlet where the wind was lower and we would have an easier paddle. We paddled along the shores of the northwest tip of Sandbanks.

We watched the geese swim and soon they took flight as we were headed in their direction.  Along the shores, we found a spot where we could hop the sand dune and check out Lake Ontario.

This area is very beautiful even with wind and waves.  There are signs of erosion with the roots of trees being exposed along the shores.  The water was too wavy to skip rocks, but that never stops Hayden from trying LOL. He wasn’t very successful, but I think he just enjoys throwing the rocks. What kid doesn’t?

As we paddled closer to the lunch hour, we headed back to the car and headed into Waupoos for lunch.  Our destination was the County Cider Company. They have delicious wood fired pizza and of course yummy cider!  I ordered their flight which had their regular cider, a peach cider, a pear cider and the blood orange cider.  The meal we ordered was a county cider salad, the Dirty Goat pizza, and a three cheese pizza for the boys.

While we waited for our food, we took advantage of the beautiful day to take in the views atop the hill gazing down the grape vines.  It was clear that these chairs were meant to be sat in and have pictures taken right?  They are also used as extra sitting for people when the patio is full.

Again!!

Our food arrived and alas I forgot to take a picture of the salad!  It was just too good.  I think we all devoured our food quickly today as I almost forgot to take a picture of the pizza as well.  Luckily I caught myself just in time.

With full stomachs, we headed back to Picton to check out the bakery and meet up with some friends.  They were just finishing a project and were also looking to get some food.  So we met up at the 555 Brewing company.  I had the County Secret, a mixture of cider with some hops, and we ordered one of their pretzels. YUMMY! Again, we were too quick eating to get a picture of the pretzel. Next time!

As we chatted and laughed together, this day ended with some great company, great food and great drinks.  If you make your way deep into the county, be sure to stop by these places and check them out.  I know I will be back again (plus it helps that we only live half an hour away).
